Rise Of Nations Cd Key
Topic Subject: | Missing cd Key with ubisoft version -- FIXED |
posted 05-28-13 10:10 AM EDT (US) Hi all Forgive me if this question has been asked and answered elsewhere in the forum. But with a quick look at the search function I found only one entry and it was no help. I just bought 'Ubisoft Exclusive: Rise of Nations Gold' from Amazon. It comes with no manual, but that's to be expected these days. Sadly on trying to install it I was asked for a cd number which as far as I can see is missing. I checked the inside and outside of the jewel case, the back of the fly cover, the cd itself. there's no printed manual to check the back of, but I looked at the manual on the disk with no luck. (Unless I am missing it.) Am I missing the obvious somehow? Many thanks Badger | |

posted 05-28-13 07:37 PM EDT (US) 1 / 2 Hey Badger, Unfortunately, the Ubisoft release of Rise of Nations is notorious for missing CD keys, and, unfortunately, the only way to resolve this issue is a cheap repurchase of the software (I know it sucks... but that's the breaks) HERE is a cheap purchase of it for only 8 bucks. I know it sucks, but through all the online ordering, and Ubisoft being in control of the distribution, its very disturbing that people cant enjoy this game due to incompetency which was not on the consumer end. But, as some advice (in the future), make sure to look at the customer reviews to be aware of any problems that might arise with ANY Software. |
TotalBadger Member | posted 05-29-13 03:51 AM EDT (US) 2 / 2 Hi PM, thanks for the reply. That's pretty shocking! I don't know what is worse to be honest, the original shoddy work not including the cd key in the first place, or retailers continued sale of the item, given that it's notorious for the cd key being missing! Thanks also for the link, but it was Amazon I bought it from in the first place, albeit Amazon UK as opposed to your link at Amazon US. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rise-Nations-Gold-video-game/dp/B0010YXMQ4/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1369815252&sr=1-1&keywords=rise+of+nations) I certainly won't compound the error by buying the same thing from them again. I'm right behind you on reading the customer reviews in case people are pointing out these issues. I did read the customer reviews on Amazon as it happens (Well...six or seven anyway) and the only reported gripe was that this version is apparently not compatible with other versions for multi-player. Not really an issue for me in this case, so I went ahead anyway. But yes, reading the reviews is always a wise move. To be honest this was just an impulse buy. I read an interesting retro article about it in 'PC Gamer' (UK) and fancied giving it a bash since it looked fun and I've somehow never got around to buying it before. For me one of the great joys PC Gaming is being able to plumb the depths of old titles and find absolute gems for dirt cheap prices. But it's not completely without risk and once in a very blue moon, you will find yourself with a title that won't run on modern systems, or at least not on yours. I'm usually alright though because in the first place that's quite rare and in the second place I use a newer Win 7 system and an older Win XP system. So usually one or the other will run whatever it is. (Added to which these days of course you have online companies like 'Good Old Games' selling retro games properly configured to run on newer machines.) In this case of course the above does not apply and not supplying a cd key makes the product 'unfit for use'. It might have been nice and cheap, but I'll not reward Ubisoft for their error, by giving them more money in the hopes of maybe getting a cd key this time. I've written a polite email to Ubisoft customer services and while I've not seen a reply yet (they're not as on the ball as you are) it's still early days as I only sent it at the same time as posting here. If they fix it for me in the next few days then all's well and good. If not, I'll apply to Amazon for a refund under it being 'unfit for use'. I've had very few problems with Amazon orders over the years, but when I have I've always been more than happy with their customer service. I'm sure they'll look after me here as well. Anyway..I don't want to drone on and send you to sleep. So suffice to say many thanks for the quick reply and I hope that this thread if nothing else, will serve as a warning to anyone who might be thinking of buying this version. (I'll also say as much in an Amazon review once I know how it pans out.) All the best Badger Addition: Hi all Just to bring this to completion and again as a warning for anyone considering this version of the game. Ubisoft support have contacted me and say that they do not support this title. Instead they suggested I contact Microsoft. I won't be doing that as the game has now pretty much worn out its welcome. But in any case I read a couple of posts on the net claiming that Microsoft deny all knowledge. I can neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of these claims. So I'll be contacting Amazon for a refund and reviewing the product accordingly in the hopes I can wave off other potential victims of this swindle. As for me? Well I'll probably wait till I see it on 'Good Old Games' or similar, where I can download it without these issues. Just out of interest by the way.. while researching this I found a number of posts which just gave cd keys outright. I'm a fairly honest fellow and despite my copy being perfectly legitimate and so arguably I should be within my rights to use one of these.. it didn't feel right to me and so I didn't try them. Was that stupid? You decide. All the best Badger Out. [This message has been edited by TotalBadger (edited 05-29-2013 @ 03:49 PM).] |
